A review on the essential oil chemical profile of Salvia genus from Iran

Iran is one of the major centres diversity for Salvia, with 58 species which 25% are endemic. A literature-based survey chemical profile Salvia essential oil found in was carried out. As a result, 46 belonging to genus were identified their composition. concise review scientific literature pertaining components oils and volatile fractions presented. The present showed that Iranian have been classified into four main categories based on GC/MS GC-FID analyses oils. monoterpene chemotype, mono sesquiterpene chemotype GLV stands green leaf volatiles. It indicated most studied considered as chemotype. Among sesquiterpenes, β-caryophyllene followed by germacrene D, spathulenol caryophyllene oxide common abundant Persian species. D reported from 27 22 Iran, respectively.
